Guilford to Hold Hearing On Forming Human Rights Commission

The public hearing will be held at 8:30 a.m. at the Community Center on February 4th.

GUILFORD, CT - The town of Guilford will hold a public hearing on February 4th to consider an ordinance to add a Human Rights Commission to the town code.

A group of residents, noting that Guilford has a growing minority population,have been asking the town to come up with a comission, to in its words, raise community awareness on the issue.

"We are residents of Guilford who have united to advance the betterment of our community through protecting the fundamental human rights and safety of all residents and visitors.

"We seek to ensure mutual respect, tolerance, and acceptance, regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, religion, nationality, sexual orientation, age, health status, or ability.

"Our sole initiative is to establish an official body, known as the Human Rights Commission, within the Town Charter."

The public hearing will be held at 8:30 a.m. at the Community Center on February 4th.
