Guilford Interfaith Volunteers Issues Heartfelt 'Thank You' To Community For Its Support

GUILFORD, CT — As Guilford Interfaith Volunteers celebrates the 40th anniversary of its Meals on Wheels program this month, Executive Director Christi Burton is thanking the community for their years of support.
In July of 1985 Dr. Elizabeth Adams began the Meals on Wheels program with 12 meals delivered in the community. Burton says the program ended the last fiscal year with 33,000 meals delivered.
"As the fiscal year ends, Guilford Interfaith Volunteers would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all those who supported this past year," Burton said earlier this month. "Our organization—home to Meals on Wheels, Charlie’s Closet, and Friendly Visiting—operates under the mission of Neighbor Helping Neighbor. We take no state or federal funding, which, while empowering, makes us reliant on fundraising, donations, and local support. Thankfully, our community continues to step up."

Specifically, Burton thanked the town for its support, the Parks and Recreation Department for hosting fundraising events, and Guilford High School and local businesses for helping to put together the concert event that benefits Meals on Wheels.
Burton also shouted out the Guilford Raquet and Swim Club for organizing its paddle tournament, as well as Ascend Bank, formerly Guilford Savings Bank.

"To the Guilford Rotary, the St. George Men’s Group, the Guilford Community Fund and the Guilford Foundation—thank you for believing on our mission and for supporting us but so many other worthwhile nonprofits," Burton added, noting appreciation to Guilford Interfaith Volunteers' partners in the Round Up programs.
"Additional thanks go to the faith groups who continuously support our mission, the Joe & Cindy Goldberg Foundation, L & J Fish Tale, MFUND, Inc, Town Fair Tire, Page Insurance, and the countless local businesses who donate raffle items to our fundraisers. And a special thank you for the continuous support throughout the year from Christie Baker of Flowers on the Green," Burton said.
Guilford Interfaith Volunteers will be the beneficiary of the upcoming St. George's Men's Group Italian Festival, which is scheduled for Aug. 22 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Aug. 23 from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., behind St. George Church.
"To the individuals who gave through The Great Give, memorial gifts, or personal donations—your generosity sustains our work. And finally, to our incredible volunteers, the cornerstone of our success, thank you for helping us bring our mission to life every day," Burton said.
