Guilford Rotary's Frosty 5K Coming New Year's Day
The annual Frosty 5K is coming up soon! This year, they've added the Kid's Fun Run to the event festivities!
The Guilford Rotary Club's 28th Annual Frosty 5K New Year's Day Road Race and 2K Health Walk is just around the corner! This year, the Rotary has added a new 1/2-mile Kids Fun Run.
Beginning this year, the Frosty 5K is the first event in the 2013 soundRunner Shoreline Race Series. It will be one of eight races including the Madison Turkey Trot, among others. Make sure to check out their website for more info.

Proceeds from the Frosty 5K goes to Warm the Children, a non-profit program that provides new, warm winter clothing for needy children on the Shoreline, as well as the Rotary Club’s Memorial Educational Fund, which grants scholarships and no-interest loans to help people seeking job training or advanced education.
“The 28th annual Frosty 5K is a great way for runners, walkers and families to kick off the New Year,” says Race Director Rick Maynard.

The fun run is scheduled to start at 10:30 am on the Guilford Green, half an hour before the 5K road race and 2K health walk. Registration for the Fun Run event begins at 9:30 am at the Community Center. The 5K road race and 2K health walk will begin at 11 AM.
“This is an opportunity for kids up to 10 years old to experience a non-competitive run,” says Fun Run organizer Dr. Paul Heeren in a Press Release. “Each runner receives an official running bib and a participant award ribbon.” There is no charge for the Fun Run, but contributions to the Guilford Food Bank would be appreciated, or a $10. Canned food contributions will be accepted the morning of the run.
soundRUNNER will act as race headquarters this year, and participants can register at the store’s Branford location or online. If you register on or before December 27th you will receive lower individual and family entry fees and the first 700 entrants receive long-sleeve running shirts. If you opt to register race day, you can register at the Community Center January 1st, 9:30-10:45.
“We want the Frosty 5K to be a fun community event and encourage family participation,” says Maynard. “It’s a great way to take a step toward better health.”
After the race, a delicious brunch will be served at the Community Center. Here, awards and results will be posted.
For more race information, online registration and a downloadable entry form, visit the Guilford Rotary Club website. All entrants who pre-register can pick up their race packets at soundRUNNER on Sunday or Monday, December 30 & 31, from 10 am to 4 pm. The Frosty 5K and the 2K will take place rain or shine!
According to the press release, the Certified USATF 5K course is flat and scenic and follows town streets from the start/finish line on Park Street to the harbor and back. Start/Finish lines are at the Guilford Green.
