Guilford is now officially a Purple Heart Town and Sept. 20, 2013 has been designated as the day where Guilford will remember and recognize veterans who are recipients of the Purple Heart.
Guilford is now a Purple Heart town, following a proclamation adopted by the Board of Selectmen Monday.
The proclamation officially designates Sept. 20, 2013 as the day Guilford will remember and recognize veterans. The proclamation also "honors the sacrifice and services of the service men and women who have been wounded or killed while protecting our freedoms," First Selectman Joseph Mazza said Monday.
The proclamation was presented to Military Order of the Purple Heart State Adjutant Ronald W. Vedrani along with Larry Santamaria, commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States Edward A. Norton Post 7666 in Guilford.
