Hurricane Sandy Alert: Guilford Public Schools Closed Tomorrow, Nov. 2nd
Guilford Public School is cancelled on Friday, Nov. 2nd, but there will be school Tuesday, Nov. 6th, Election Day
Post Sandy, Guilford Public schools decide to close Friday, Nov. 2nd since two of the schools remain without power. Also, though Tuesday was originally scheduled as a professional development day for staff only, there will be school for students that day. Guilford Public Schools Communications Coordinator released this message:
Dear GPS Community:
Schools will remain closed in Guilford on Friday, November 2nd. While power has been restored to five of our schools, it remains out at Calvin Leete and A.W. Cox Schools. In addition, roads still need to be cleared to make travel safe for buses and cars in many areas. We know that many families remain without power and are still cleaning up from storm damage.
We anticipate schools will reopen on Monday for a regular day.
In addition, schools will be open on Tuesday, November 6th, Election Day, for both students and staff. Tuesday was originally scheduled as a professional development day for staff only. Because of the five emergency closing days this week, the decision has been made to open school for students as a regular day on Tuesday. Guilford Police will be present at the four schools used as polling locations - Jones, Leete, Cox, and Baldwin. PE classes will take place outside, and teachers will be asked to park away from the buildings to accommodate voters.
Due to the change in the school calendar, students with a conflict in their schedule should contact their school's principal.
Schools will be making accommodations and extending the end of the first quarter marking period. Details will be forthcoming from the individual schools.
Parent/Teacher Conferences for elementary schools and the high school will be rescheduled. November 7th & 8th will now be full days at Guilford High School.
Guilford High School has announced the following information:
- SATs will take place as scheduled at the high school on Saturday, November 3rd
- The Homecoming Dance scheduled for Saturday, November 3rd has been postponed
- Monday, November 5th will be a "D" Day at the high school
- Information on rescheduled athletic events can be found here. Athletes will receive messages from their coaches through their normal communications channels.
The Town of Guilford has provided updated Emergency Information.
Please remember to turn your clocks back one hour this Saturday!
Thank you.
