Hurricane Sandy Impact on Guilford Monday, Oct. 29
A look back at Hurricane Sandy as it hit Guilford on Monday, Oct. 29

Hurricane Sandy's impact on Guilford Monday was devastating. While I'm here on my last 15 minutes of juice on my battery and no power in my house to recharge, I cannot attempt to capture the true impact of the storm on Guilford Residents.
For most of the day, Guilford Patch delivered updates through our info center, with the latest news on the storm. By around 9 PM last night, there were approximately 80 areas in Guilford that were closed completely, or mostly due to flooding or downed trees.
Yesterday brought about another major disaster for the Stone House and The Mooring down by the Marina, Rt. 1 was flooded down by the Guilford/Madison town line, and countless evacuations took place. Many of these moments were captured here in our photo/video page dedicated to Sandy. I encourage residents to add photos to our page from their own experiences of the storm and its continuing impact, only when it is safe though.

Governor Malloy addressed the state several times in press releases, updating us on the Shoreline about the severity of the storm. Only a few hours ago, the Governor issued a special message to CT residents, alerting them to the extreme nature of the impact of the storm.
Currently, 9,516, 88%, of Guilford residents are without power.

Throughout the day, members of our town including the First Selectman, Fire Department, Police Department, Public Works, First Selectman's office, the Tree Warden, Board of Ed, and many others worked tirelessly and around the clock to provide support to the town of Guilford. I want to thank them for all of their efforts and dedication that I know will undoubtedly continue as Guilford continues to endure, and recover, from this devastation.
Everyone please stay safe.
