Today will be the last day that a FEMA Disaster Recovery Center will be stationed in Guilford. The center opened Tuesday, and was only able to squeeze in a half day yesterday due to the winter storm. Today is the final day they will be open to offer direct assistance to those applying for aid. The Center is located in the Community Room at the Guilford Police Station. They will be open from 8 AM to 8 PM.

"We encourage folks who have suffered any sort of damage from Sandy to apply for assistance," said Cleo Howell, FEMA Public Information Officer. "They don't have to come to the center to apply, but the Center is available for those who need it."

There are three ways to begin the application process for FEMA assistance other than heading to the Center:

• Or Visit www.DisasterAssistance.gov

"We suggest people apply for assistance using one of those three methods," continues Howell. "But we just want to provide an additional resource for residents in Guilford. Here at the center, we can provide information and people can talk one on one with a FEMA application assistant."

"Additionally, we have phone banks set up, so they can apply right here at the center. Also, if someone applied for assistance a few days ago or more, the center is able to look up the case, to see where the application is in the process."
