Message from Guilford Public Schools about Closures

With Hurricane Sandy promising to impact the shoreline, Guilford Public schools have decided to shut down the schools tomorrow and Tuesday.

A message from Guilford Public Schools Communications Coordinator Lorri Hahn.

Dear Guilford Public Schools Community:

Guilford Public Schools will be closed on Monday, October 29th and Tuesday, October 30th due to Storm Sandy and its forecasted impact on our area.

Administrative, clerical, support and custodial staff who normally report to work on non-student days are expected to report to work on Monday.

School closings and related information will be communicated through our SchoolMessenger notification system via phone and email. Current information will be posted on our district website.  Our servers are backed up with generators, however, it is possible that a widespread power outage or downed power/communication lines may still impact our website.

We will send information to TV channels 3, 6, 8, and 30. These stations will post all school closings on their websites. More detailed information will also be available on local cable channel 19 provided there is power.

Announcements will also be sent to radio stations 99.9 FM, 1420 AM, and 99.1 FM.

A current voice message can be accessed at (203) 453-8200.

There will be no out of district transportation while Guilford Public Schools are closed.

The Town of Guilford has announced a Mandatory Evacuation for areas south of the railroad tracks including areas prone to storm flooding beginning at 2 p.m. on Sunday. The Community Center will open at 2 p.m. today as an Emergency Shelter. Please refer to the Town of Guilford website and Facebook page for updated announcements about the storm.

Members of the Town’s Emergency Management Team have also recorded a broadcast available on local cable channel 18 to provide our community with important information regarding the storm.

We urge you to keep your cell phones charged, if possible, and to be sure that you have a cell phone number in PowerSchool. In the event of wide-spread power outages, cell phone communication becomes an important way for GPS to reach you. Parents and guardians may update phone and email contact information supplied to our SchoolMessenger database by going to your student’s PowerSchool account . Once you have logged in, click on the Email Notification icon, make your changes/updates and click submit. This information will automatically be updated into SchoolMessenger.

We hope you and your families area safe and well during the storm.

Thank you.
