Needy Fed To Honor Tragic Anniversary of Ethan Song's Death

More than 100 less fortunate were fed through an act of kindness by those who knew and loved Ethan Song on Thursday at a special dinner.

GUILFORD, CT - To mark the tragic one year anniversary of the death of Ethan Song from a gun shot, friends of the Song family Thursday served dinner to 100 guests at the Columbus House shelter in New Haven

A large group of volunteers traveled from Guilford to New Haven after gathering up food, including dinners and dessert, donated by the community the past few days at the First Congregational Church in Guilford.

The event was organized by those who said they wanted to hold an event "in keeping with Ethan's caring heart, we honor him and his family by spreading kindness and serving dinner."

Besides the food donated, many others made a monetary donation to Columbus House in the name of the Ethan Miller Song Foundation.

This is what the organizers had to say about the event:

"The day and evening were truly beautiful to be a part of. The women putting this together, Diane Grasso, Leslie Hyman, Tina Roman, Jenifer McShane were an honor to work with. We put the call out to our Guilford friends and they rose to the occasion, as usual, and went above and beyond. Every single person who signed up to donate brought 2 -3 times as much as we asked for.

"Those that did not sign up in time (it took less than 24 hours to have 30+ slots filled) sent money, love and support. First Congregational Church opened their doors for food prep and the food, friends and fellowship poured in. We had the honor of serving almost 100 guests at Columbus house. We let them know we were there in memory of Ethan Song and in honor of the entire Song family. The guests were gracious and grateful and were served a warm, delicious meal. We were thanked and blessed by all throughout the meal. It was truly a privilege to serve.

This all began because we knew that 1/31/2019 was going to be an extremely difficult day. The Songs were shattered one year ago and the entire community felt the weight of their grief. Since then, our dear friends the Songs have made a very simple request to all of us....be kind. So that is what we all strive to do....simple acts of kindness, no matter how small or how big, each one matters. These are the things that allow our beloved friends to get out of bed each morning and take another step and a new breath. The Songs want everyone to know that they are truly heartened by every act of kindness they hear and read about. It means the world to them.

Please check your guns and make sure they are secure and children cannot access them.

The family and friends of Ethan want to remind everyone that the kindness and giving can continue - year round - and are asking all to keep the Ethan Song's Act of Kindness effort in mind.
