Obituary: Ronald R. Berube, 90, of Guilford

A US Air Force​ navigator, he enjoyed all kinds of music, reading, and travel, and time outdoors from kayaking and camping to sailing.

On December 24th, 2023, Ronald R. Berube of Guilford, passed away peacefully, with family by his side. Born in Hartford, CT on March 15, 1933, he was the son of the late Napolean and Jeanette (Boucher) Berube.

In addition to his parents, Ron was predeceased by his wife Margaret (Bowman) Berube, his sister and brother-in-law Patricia and Roger Cowles, his father and mother-in-law Joseph and Bridget (Foley) Bowman, and his sister-in-law Mary Cowles and brother-in-law Joseph Bowman.

Ronald was a graduate of Buckley High School and attended the Connecticut School of Electronics, which aided him while being self employed as a Home Contractor.

Also, Ron honorably served his country in the US Air Force as a navigator.

On August 3, 1957, Ron married Margaret and began his family in Manchester, CT before moving to Guilford in 1966. Ron leaves behind his 5 beautiful children that he was so proud of, Dr R. Robert Berube (Bethanie) of Manchester, ME., Ellen Cocco (Rob) of Sterling, VA., Lisa McMinn (William) of Madison, CT., Paula Conway (Michael) of Bethel, CT., and Michael Berube (Kristin) of Guilford, CT. He also leaves 9 grandchildren, Krystina Angelini (Nick), Kayla Bowman (David), Trevor and Spencer McMinn, Bridget, Casey and Lindsey Conway, Gabrielle, and Faith Berube along with 4 great grandchildren whom he loved and adored immensely and affectionately called him “Gamps” and several nieces and nephews to whom he was “Uncle Bob”.

Ron listened to all kinds of music, from Operas to fife and drum. He enjoyed reading, and traveling and went to Europe many times. He also, enjoyed the outdoors from kayaking, camping, and sailing. When Ron first moved to Guilford, his career provided him with the opportunity to work on some of the Americas Cup Sailboats. Above all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

A Celebration of Life service is being planned for the spring, followed by a private burial. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ronald’s name can be made to The Guilford House Recreation Fund, 109 West Lake Avenue, Guilford, CT 06437.
