Post Sandy: Halloween in Guilford Cancelled, Halloween Spirit Still Alive!

The town has officially cancelled Halloween, but the spirit of Halloween is alive and well post Sandy!

Earlier today the town officially Cancelled Halloween for safety concerns in Sandy's wake. The town released this statement earlier:

Halloween is CANCELED for this evening. For the safety of our children and our families, we are recommending no “Trick or Treating” today. We will reschedule to a new date once power has been restored.

But the Halloween spirit is alive and well in Guilford at Bishops Orchards. Bishops posted this on Facebook last night about the event:

Halloween Pumpkin Carving at Bishop's will benefit charity and families close to home...

No Power? No School? Need to get out of the house and do something with the kids?

Come to Bishop's Orchards at 10 am or 1 pm and carve yourself a Jack-O-Lantern!! All pumpkins that are carved on site for this event are FREE and we ask that in lieu of purchasing the pumpkin, you make a donation to the Women and Family Life Center. The donations will supply funds to help clean up efforts and housing needs by needy families on the Shoreline.

So come on over tomorrow, Halloweeeeen, with family and friends to carve one or more pumpkins for charity. Bring your scoops and carving tools if you have them, otherwise we will have some to share.

Take the pumpkin home, or choose to place it on display that we will set up for a Bishop Spooktacular in front of the Little Red Barn for Halloween night.

We invite you to Dress Up in Costumes too!

I stopped by the event just a few moments ago and it was buzzing with activity. Some kids were dressed up in full costumes and were having a blast! Many of the carvers I spoke to were without power at home, and came out for some Halloween festivities for themselves and their families.

"We're not trick-or-treating tonight since the town cancelled and we want to put safety first," said one family. "So, with no power, we decided to head out here for some fun."

In the wake of Sandy's impact, spirits are high here at Bishops!
