Sacred Heart Academy Students Earn National Recognition on Le Grand Concours

Le Grand Concours is an annual competition sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French.

Sacred Heart students have attained national recognition on the 2016 National French Exam/Le Grand Concours, an annual competition sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French. Students were evaluated for their written, oral and listening comprehension in French. More than 85,000 students in all 50 states competed in the 2016 event.

The following students recognized for their achievement:

Level 1 students were Megane Lyonel of Meriden (gold medal 1C) as well as Alexandra Azaldegui of New Haven, Isabella Crotta of Northford and Michaela Gibbons of Guilford for honorable mentions 1A.

Level 2 students were Sarah Anastasio of North Branford, Katerina Bilcheck of Milford, Zoe Lamoreaux of Guilford and Jamison Schillo of Hamden for honorable mentions 2A.

Level 3 students were Eunji Lee of Trumbull (silver medal 3A) and Brittany Barbour of Branford (bronze medal 3A) as well as Charlotte Beatty of Guilford, Miriam Desrosiers of Shelton, Jordan Earl of Hamden, Elizabeth Lamont of Hamden and Judith Suffrard of New Haven for honorable mentions 3A.

Level 4 students were Ayah Elarabi of Hamden (silver medal 4A) and Sophie Park of Essex for honorable mention 4A.

“The French Department is extremely proud of our students as they have achieved a level of excellence on this year’s French National Exam,” commented Mme. Sylvie Levallois-Sanchez.

World language offerings at Sacred Heart currently include Levels I through AP, ECE in French, Latin and Spanish as well as AP offerings in each language. Chinese I and II are also offered. The study of world language reinforces English skills and offers students an appreciation of the diversity of cultures and peoples.

Founded in 1946 by the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Sacred Heart successfully prepares young women in grades 9–12 for learning, service, and achievement in a global society. Sacred Heart Academy welcomes 500 students from more than 80 schools and 60 towns in Connecticut and is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.
