Carol Martone of Guilford was sitting in the shade at Madison's Surf Club Wednesday afternoon with her sister Nina Ellison, also of Guilford. They were taking a break after singing, dancing, and eating up a storm with some like minded people also looking for a good time on a beautiful spring day at the beach.
They were part of a group of about 130 people taking part in a Strawberry Festival sponsored by the Madison Senior Center and the Guilford Senior Center.
For a nominal fee Carol, Nina, and their friends, new and old, enjoyed "buckets" of clam chowder with huge juicy clams, platters of hamburgs and hot dogs, every kind of salad you could think of and generous portions of strawberry shortcake, a dessert that just screams "summer is coming!"
"It was delicious food, beautifully presented and the people were just do nice," Carol said.
Her sister Nina agreed.
"It was a perfect way to spend a beautiful day," Nina said.
