Six Baby Raccoons Rescued From Unusual Place by Guilford Officers

Guilford officers were called out to rescue some baby raccoons last week; the rescue operation took on another dimension due to where it was

GUILFORD, CT - Guilford animal control and police officers had - even for them - quite the unusual rescue call last week.

Let them tell you what happened, which is posted on the Guilford Police Animal Shelter Facebook page:

“Last week, we were called out to a home for what became quite the call! What was originally thought to be three raccoons, turned out to be six baby raccoons, and four decided a car engine would be a good place to hide!

“Animal Control Officer Borrelli and Police Officer FitzPatrick had their hands full getting the little ones safely out of the car engine, with some help from our friends at Public Works who had the tools we needed. The car was jacked up, and parts of the engine removed to reach the little ones from under the car, gently taking them back out the way that they had climbed up.

“The four who climbed into the engine and the two caught outside it were all safely brought to a local wildlife rehabilitator. Attempts were made to find their mother, but sadly we couldn't locate her. They'll be well cared for until they're old enough to be released - hopefully a little wiser when picking hiding spots! (Thank you to the car owner for supplying us with these pictures!)‘’
