The Status of Guilford's Water Supply Post Sandy

After speaking with the Director of Guilford's Health Department, the state of the towns water supply is safe

Guilford's Director of Health states that after Hurricane Sandy, Guilford's public water supply is safe and unaffected.

"Guilford's water supply has not been contaminated," the Director said. "But, we have closed down all shellfish beds, both for commercial and recreational fishing."

This is due to the high levels of bacteria, oil and gasoline that have contaminated the shellfish supply in Sandy's wake.

"If you live on the shoreline and you have well water," he added, "when the power is restored, it is safe to drink the water."

"However, if you have a private well and it has been flooded, don't drink the water," he concluded. "It will most likely be contaminated, and it should be tested before it is consumed."
