Town Is Readying For Henri, Residents Need To Get Ready, Too
Matt Hoey says that emergency services and public works departments are "fully prepared for any impact the storm may have on our community."

GUILFORD, CT — Though Tropical Storm Henri is expected to strengthen to a Category 1 hurricane Saturday afternoon, when it makes landfall near Stonington on Sunday night, it's expected it will come in as a strong tropical storm, as pointed out by First Selectman Matt Hoey.
Hoey said Guilford's Emergency Services and Public Works departments are "fully prepared for any impact the storm may have on our community."
And the Emergency Operations Center will be open throughout and in the event of prolonged power outages, he said the town is "prepared to open the Community Center as a shelter."

Hoey said those concerned with flooding, sand and bags are available now at the fire department.
He urged folks to prepare for possible prolonged power outages from downed trees and wires. And make the following preparations now:

- Know a safe place to shelter in your home, a basement area is suggested if available to you
- Be able to receive (weather) alerts
- Make appropriate preparations for pets
- Have the following supplies on hand: Bottled water, non-perishable food & flashlights & fresh batteries
- Should you need to evacuate, prepare a 'go kit' with items you cannot do without that includes: hand sanitizer, at least 2 masks or face coverings per person, gloves, any medications and eyeglasses you need, and emergency contact information.
