3 Shot Just As Memorial Gathering Was Ending: Hamden Police

HAMDEN, CT — Multiple people and vehicles were shot just as a memorial gathering was ending on Whitney Avenue late Friday, police said.

At 11:59 p.m. police responded to 1247-1253 Whitney Ave. on a report of multiple shots fired. Police said a memorial gathering was just ending. Police found shell casings and blood evidence. The area was secured as a crime scene.

"Further investigation by arriving Officers determined that shots were fired as the memorial gathering ended and that a passing motorist had been struck by gunfire," police said. "This motorist was transported to a local hospital. It was also determined that two other individuals, who had been in attendance at 1247-1253 Whitney Ave., had self transported to a local hospital with gunshot injuries."

All injuries were considered to be non-life threatening at this time, police said. A second passing vehicle was also later determined to have been struck by gunfire with no reported injuries, police added.

Detectives with the Hamden Police Major Crimes Unit responded to the scene and have assumed the investigation. There is no danger to the public at this time, police said. This is an active and ongoing investigation, police said.
