Beloved Bookstore To Reopen In North Haven After Closing In Hamden
The beloved local bookstore is set to close in January, with a longtime employee taking over in a new location.
HAMDEN, CT — Beloved local used bookstore Books & Company will reopen on State Street in North Haven after closing its current location at 1235 Whitney Ave. in Hamden in January, according to the New Haven Register.
The Register reports new owner Tamara Cypress will reopen the store in March at 83 State St. in North Haven in the space that formerly housed The Advisor Newspaper and across from the former Agway, currently Smithland Pet & Garden Center.
The popular coffee shop Legal Grounds will not be reopening inside the new Books & Company due to space constraints, according to the Register.

Books & Company owner and founder Linda Mooser announced in September that she made the “difficult decision” to close Books & Company in January. Mooser cited health issues, she was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis seven years ago and is now in her mid-70s, and said it was time to “slow down and begin a new chapter. I’m certain that it’s time – even though it hurts.”
The building’s owner also planned on selling the space at 1235 Whitney Ave. in Hamden, so Mooser said someone else taking over the lease wasn’t an option.
