HAMDEN, CT — Shelly L. Carter was sworn in as Hamden’s new fire chief at a ceremony Friday morning at Memorial Town Hall.

Carter was first appointed as Hamden’s acting assistant fire chief by Mayor Lauren Garrett in January 2024. Following the retirement of Fire Chief Jeffrey Naples, Carter was appointed acting fire chief effective March 28, and the Legislative Council approved the appointment to fire chief on June 2.
