Cheshire's YellowFins Closes after Six Years

YellowFins Seafood Grille closed suddenly this week after making Easter weekend its last days of operation.

The restaurant in Everybody's Plaza at 1027 S. Main St., Cheshire, just up from the Hamden line, opened almost exactly six years ago in March, 2006. Owner Thomas Bartlett of Cheshire couldn't be reached for comment. He formed YellowFins LLC in June, 2005, according to state records.

"They had a good following, especially on Friday nights," said Sheldon Dill, president of the Cheshire Chamber of Commerce. "In these economic times, it's tough for businesses, especially restaurants," he said.

There is no notice of the closing posted on the door and the business phone clicks off after ringing for a few minutes. Dill said the restaurant had as many as 20 employees. It's not known whether they were given advanced warning of the decision to close. 

As recently as last week, Yellowfins was still advertising its Happy Hour and Sunset specials as well as its Raw Bar offerings. 

An employee of a neighboring business said she heard on Tuesday that Yellowfins was closed for good. She said potential customers kept walking up to the door, only to find it locked and the restaurant in the dark.

The plaza is owned by the Morris family, which owns Everybody's market. A manager there said he was not aware that Yellowfins had closed.
