Christmas Comes Early for Eli's on Whitney Waitress

Late Kentucky man's spirit lives on in 'Aaron's Last Wish.' On Monday, a Hamden waitress was the beneficiary of that good will.

Last year, when 30-year-old Kentucky resident Aaron Collins passed away, he had something specific he wanted done with the money he left behind: he wanted his family to go have a pizza and leave the waiter or waitress a $500 tip.

They did, and have done it over and over all over the country in the last 18 months, thanks to the generosity of strangers who have donated to Aaron's Last Wish. And on Monday night, they did it for the 86th time, this time at Eli's on Whitney in Hamden, where a lucky waitress named Amanda was the receipent of the $500 tip.

Aaron's brother Seth did the honors, explaining to Amanda what they were doing and why they were doing it, and gave her a copy of the book their mother Tina wrote about Aaron, "Aaron Collins Did That."

When Amanda realized what was going on, she was overwhelmed.

"I'm so grateful, it's something I'll talk about for the rest of my life," she told Seth Collins.
