HAMDEN, CT — Construction has officially begun on a new visitor center at Sleeping Giant State Park in Hamden, the Sleeping Giant Park Association announced this week.
“This long-awaited project will serve as a hub for park visitors—a place to learn about the Giant’s ecology, history, and recreation opportunities, as well as a space for SGPA programs and community events,” officials wrote in a post on the Sleeping Giant Park Association’s Facebook page.
The new center will include bathrooms, according to the post.

The current work at the site includes installing the septic system and laying the concrete foundation for the building, which will be a log-cabin style structure.
“Once the building is complete, SGPA will take the lead in furnishing the interior with exhibits and interpretive materials to share the incredible stories of the Giant—from geology and wildlife to cultural history and recreation,” the post on Facebook reads. “This is just the beginning, and we’ll be sharing updates as construction progresses. For now, we celebrate this milestone—a huge step forward for visitors, the community, and everyone who treasures Sleeping Giant.”
