CT's Alexis Holmes Comes Up Just Short At Paris Olympics

The Hamden native, and Cheshire Academy graduate, ran in the women's 400-Meter final on Friday.

HAMDEN, CT — Hamden native, and Cheshire Academy graduate, Alexis Holmes came in sixth place on Friday in the final of the women's 400-Meter race at the Paris Olympics.

The 24-year-old, who graduated from the University of Kentucky, was competing in her first Olympics, and finished the final with a time of 49.77.

Marileidy Paulino, of the Dominican Republic, won the gold and set an Olympic record with a time of 48.17.

On Friday, Holmes beat her 50-second-flat time from Wednesday's semifinal. She came in second in that semifinal to advance to Friday's final.

Holmes was one of 11 Connecticut residents who qualified for Team USA for the Paris Games.
