Family Escapes House Fire In Hamden

The son who discovered the fire woke up the rest of the family, who officials said safely escaped the fire through a smoke-filled hallway.

HAMDEN, CT — A family of four escaped a house fire late Monday night in Hamden, according to fire officials.

Crews responded around 11:30 p.m. on April 21 to a house fire on Troiano Road.

The first-arriving crew found heavy fire coming from the kitchen, according to officials.

“The crew from Engine 9 stretched a hose line to extinguish the fire,” officials wrote in a post on the Hamden Fire Department’s Facebook page. “A search by Tower 1 of the home confirmed that all occupants were out of the building.”

A family of four was living in the home at the time of the fire, according to officials.

“The son who discovered the fire was able to awaken the rest of the family to exit the home,” officials wrote. “The family quickly navigated down a smoke filled hallway and exited the home safely. The four occupants were displaced by the fire. American Red Cross is assisting the family with accommodations.”

The Hamden Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the origin and cause of the fire.

“The Hamden Fire Department would like to remind residents on the importance of smoke detectors,” officials wrote. “Early detection and notification give you and your family the best chance of survival in the event of a fire.”
