Hamden Democratic Primary Election 2025: Mayoral, Council Candidates

Registered Democrats in Hamden will head to the polls Sept. 9 for a primary election that features races for mayor and Legislative Council.

HAMDEN, CT — Registered Democrats in Hamden will head to the polls on Tuesday, Sept. 9 for a primary election that features races for mayor and Legislative Council.

Legislative Council President Dominique Baez is the Democratic Party’s endorsed candidate for mayor and is facing a primary challenge from Peter Cyr, Lushonda Howard, Walter Morton IV and Adam Sendroff.

Incumbent Mayor Lauren Garrett announced in July that she was ending her re-election campaign for a third term.

The winner of Tuesday’s primary will face Republican Jonathan Katz and petitioning candidate Jameka Jefferies in the municipal election in November in what will be a historic mayoral race in Hamden – the first with the new four-year mayoral terms approved in the 2022 charter revision ballot question.

In addition to the mayoral primary, registered Democrats can vote for up to four candidates for Legislative Council At-Large. The party-endorsed candidates are Maurine Crouch, Douglas J. Foley, Tasha Hunt, and Katie Kiely. The challengers are Delroy Crawford and Marion Regina Mullings.

There are also primary challenges for four district Legislative Council seats.

In the 6th District, endorsed candidate Renee Hoff is being challenged by Grace Teodosio.

In the 7th District, endorsed candidate Adrian Webber is being challenged by Kathleen Muolo.

In the 8th District, endorsed candidate Ted Stevens is being challenged by James Baker.

In the 9th District, endorsed candidate Tameeka Parks is being challenged by Barbara Walker.

Polls, Hours, Locations

Only registered Democrats can vote in Tuesday’s primary. Those who are not registered to vote can register or enroll in person at the Registrar of Voters Office at Hamden Government Center, 2750 Dixwell Avenue, until 12 noon on Monday, Sept. 8.

On Primary Day, Sept. 8, polls will open at 6 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.

  • District 1 - Miller Library, 2901 Dixwell Avenue
  • District 2 - Booker T. Washington Academy, 306 Circular Avenue
  • District 3 - Keefe Community Center, 11 Pine Street
  • District 4 - Spring Glen School, 1908 Whitney Avenue
  • District 5 - Board of Education Building, 60 Putnam Avenue
  • District 6 - Ridge Hill School, 120 Carew Road
  • District 7 - Dunbar Hill School, 315 Lane Street
  • District 8 - Bear Path School, 10 Kirk Road
  • District 9 - West Woods School, 350 West Todd Street
