Occupation:
Accountant with 20+ years experience
Family:
I'm married to my beautiful wife Crystal and have four adult children, four grandchildren, and one on the way.
Does anyone in your family work in politics or government?
No
Previous public office, appointive or elective:
No
Why are you seeking this office?
I'm seeking the 7th district council seat to give the people of the district their voice back and to make a direct, positive impact on the community. I want to promote Fiscal Accountability, strengthen Transparency and Trust, improve Quality of life, and being a voice for Equity and Inclusion. Hamden is diverse and evolving and I want to help ensure that families have a bright and successful future here.
The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is ____, and this is what I intend to do about it:
I believe that every council member works hard and dedicate their time but there are many issues that have been unresolved in Hamden for years and one of the major issues is affordability. It is Hamden's biggest and most complex challenges. I would issue a plan to restructure long-term debt and implement a multi-year debt reduction plan to lower interest costs. I will also continue negotiating sustainable pension and healthcare agreements with unions, focusing on long-term solvency. My main goal would be to strengthen the Legislative Council's budget review powers to ensure departments justify every expenditure.
What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
I have over twenty years of experience in accounting which will help alleviate some of the financial issues the town faces. My approach to resolving issues is always bipartisan and my priorities are the residents, the town and then the government in that order. I will work diligently on bringing immediate relief to residents, but I also believe in long term results.
What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?
Some other issues and concerns that I'm hearing from residents are Safety, Crime, Road Repairs and economic development.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
When my current employer hired me, the company's processes were out of order. We were a $19 million dollar company and behind months in reconciliations and many transactions were allocated to incorrect general ledger accounts. I was able to correct those errors and implement new processes and procedures to ensure they weren't repeated in the future. I will bring the same skill set to the council.
What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?
Never, Ever Give Up.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
I will always fight for my district and for Hamden Residents. I often say no matter what party affiliation or no party affiliation; we really have more in common than we do differences. I'm running to serve everyone and to see Hamden flourish once more.
