Hamden Hosts Hazardous Waste Collection

Hamden will be offering residents an opportunity to get rid of hazardous waste every Saturday morning during the summer at HazWaste.

From The City of Hamden: Attention Hamden residents: Are your garages or basements full of old-anti- freeze, gasoline, oil-based paints, batteries, or pesticides? If so, load the stuff into a box, put it in your car and drive down to 90 Sargent Drive in New Haven on Saturdays this summer between 9:00 AM and noon. HazWaste closes for the season in October.

The goal of the program is to offer the residents of the 16-town region a safe and convenient way to dispose of environmentally damaging chemicals. Many chemicals, which are volatile and toxic, can pollute the land if dumped in with regular garbage or pollute Long Island Sound and other important waterways if washed down sinks or storm drains.

Co-sponsored by the Authority and the South Central Connecticut Regional Council of Governments, HazWaste Central serves almost 6,000 households a year. It serves the communities of: Bethany, Branford, Cheshire, East Haven, Fairfield, Guilford, Hamden, Madison, Milford, New Haven, North Branford, North Haven, Orange, Wallingford, West Haven and Woodbridge.
