Hamden Hurricanes Win 9U Championship, Eye Trip To Nationals

The Hamden Hurricanes are eyeing a trip to the Nationals in North Carolina next month, and are asking for some help to get there.

HAMDEN, CT — The 9U Hamden Hurricanes recently won the D2 Southern Connecticut Pop Warner Championship and are eyeing a trip to the Nationals in North Carolina next month.

The Hamden Fathers Football and Cheerleading Association is asking for some help to get them there.

A GoFundMe campaign, titled “Support Hamden Hurricanes' Journey to Nationals,” has been launched to help with their efforts.

“Established in 1969, Hamden Fathers Football and Cheerleading Association (Hamden Hurricanes) has been proudly serving Hamden families for over 50 years,” league officials wrote in a post on GoFundMe. “HFFCA is dedicated to providing athletic and academic opportunities to the youth of our community with the assistance of an all-volunteer staff. The mission of HFFCA is to provide every child with the opportunity to participate, regardless of economic or social challenges. Furthermore, we wish to expose them to the life skills necessary to be successful in the world today.”

After winning the 9U D2 SCPW Championship, the Hurricanes are preparing to compete in Regional games, with hopes of qualifying for the National games in Charlotte, North Carolina in December.

“These hardworking young men have won several other championships over the last few seasons,” the GoFundMe post reads. “Their titles include: 6U All Division Champions and 6U SCPW Champions, 8U New England Regional Champions, 8U Connecticut State Champions, 8U SCPW Champions.

“We are in need of financial assistance to help cover the travel expenses for the team, which consists of 30 players, six coaches, and two team parents. We are asking for your support and hope you will be able to assist our league with a donation or sponsorship. We do not turn children away due to lack of financial means. Your donation will help to ensure that no child will be left behind.”
