Hamden Man Arrested On Drug Charges After 3-Car Crash: State Police
Police said the man, who is accused of operating a drug factory, caused a three-car crash that involved two rollovers on Route 9.

HAMDEN, CT — A Hamden man was arrested on several drug charges after police said he caused a three-vehicle crash on Route 9 in New Britain on Wednesday afternoon.
State troopers responded around 1:15 p.m. on June 18 to Route 9 North near Exit 37B in New Britain on the report of a three-car crash involving two rollovers, according to Connecticut State Police.
Police said one of the three involved drivers sustained minor injuries and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

The other drivers weren’t injured, and police said wreckers were dispatched to the scene to tow the disabled vehicles.
Police said an investigation at the scene determined that one of the uninjured drivers, 30-year-old Frank Mitchell of Hamden, was at fault for the accident.

Further investigation led to the discovery of Mitchell being in “possession of a significant quantity of controlled substances, packaging equipment and narcotics related paraphernalia,” according to police.
Police said Mitchell admitted to troopers that he produces chocolate bars and gummies containing mushrooms. He was subsequently arrested without incident and taken to Troop H in Hartford for processing, according to police.
“A search warrant was later drafted and approved for Mitchell's residence in Hamden, where additional narcotics, drug paraphernalia, drug equipment and a large capacity magazine were discovered and seized as evidence,” police wrote in a news release.
Mitchell was arrested on charges of operation of a drug factory, illegal possession of a large capacity magazine, two counts of use of drug paraphernalia, two counts of possession with intent to sell/dispense a hallucinogenic substance, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, reckless driving, and failure to drive in proper lane - limited access highway. He was held in lieu of a $100,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
