Hamden Man Charged with Robbing Liquor Store

A Hamden man turned himself into police today on a warrent for armed robbery.

Robert Gordneer, 62, of 649 Mix Ave., Apt. B17, Hamden, was charged with first-degree robbery and second-degree larceny in connection owith the Aug. 1 armed robbery at Wine Merchants at 2100 Dixwell Ave. in the Hamden Plaza.

On that day, Hamden Police responded to the business at about 2 p.m. on the report of an armed robbery, according to police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith.

The clerk told police that a man dressed in dark clothes and wearing a black ski mask had entered the store and demanded money, Smith said. The clerk said she believed he had a gun, Smith said, and she gave him an undisclosed amount of cash, after which he took off in a car.

A few days later, Officer Derick Manning conducted a motor vehicle stop on the vehicle allegedly used in the robbery, Smith said, and after investigating the case further, an application was obtained for an arrest warrant for Gordneer. The court subsequently approved the arrest warrant application.

On Wednesday morning Gordneer turned himself in at Hamden Police Headquarters, Smith said. He was held in lieu of $100,000 bond and is due to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Sept. 12.
