Hamden Man’s Body Recovered From Lake, ID Released: Officials

Officials have identified a Hamden man whose body was recovered from a lake over the weekend.

HAMDEN, CT — A Hamden man’s body was recovered from Candlewood Lake in Sherman over the weekend, officials said in an update Monday morning.

DEEP EnCon Police confirmed that the body of Anand Baghel, 55, of Hamden, was recovered around 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16 following a search operation on Candlewood Lake in Sherman, according to DEEP spokesperson James Fowler.

State officials said on Friday that a 55-year-old man entered the water from a vessel and did not resurface. The vessel was anchored at the time, and a defined search area was established. Dive teams were in the water working in coordination with responding agencies.

"Our hearts are with the victim’s family and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time,” Fowler said. “We extend our deepest condolences and hope they can find comfort and support as they grieve this tragic loss.”
