Hamden Mother Facing Felony Charge After Daughter, 3, Found In Parking Lot Alone

Deborah Powell, 37, is facing a felony charge after her daughter allegedly dressed herself while she was asleep and then wandered to the Hamden Plaza parking lot.

A Hamden mother was arrested Tuesday afternoon after her 3-year-old daughter allegedly wandered into the parking lot of Hamden Plaza while she was asleep.

At around 5 p.m. Tuesday, Hamden police said they received a call that a small child was wandering around the Hamden Plaza parking lot by herself, according to the New Haven Register. After an investigation, police determined that the girl dressed herself and left her home while her mother, Debora Powell, was sleeping, and walked about 3/10 of a mile to the plaza, according to the Register.

Powell, 37, of 5 Kaye Plaza, was charged with risk of injury to a minor, a felony, according to the New Haven Register. She was released on $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on June 14, according to the Register.

The Department of Children and Families was contacted by the Hamden Police Department, according to the Register.
