Hamden Police Issue Warning After Another Burglary

The suspects entered through an unlocked, open window, according to police, who are warning residents to take precautions in order not to become victims.

Hamden Police are once again warning residents to keep their doors and windows locked after a home on Spring Garden Street was entered early Tuesday morning while the residents were asleep.

Police responded there to the report of a burglary, according to police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith, and found that electric equipment had been stolen from the home.

The burglars reportedly entered the home through an unlocked open first-floor window, Smith said. The residents were home and asleep at the time of the break-in, he said.

Over the past several months, the number of burglaries and break-ins has increased, with some occurring the day. Police have been warning residents to make sure their homes are locked and lighted.

"Residents are advised to secure their homes by locking their doors and windows," Smith said. "Furthermore, residents should thoroughly illuminate their property and utilize an alarm system if available.

"Curtains and drapes can prevent thieves from observing items that are left in plain view," he said.. He urged residents to report suspicious activity to the Hamden Police Department at 203-230-4000.
