Hamden Public Library Presents: 'How To X-Ray A Planet'

Learn more about X-ray generators large enough to diagnose a planet at a free virtual lecture.

Press release from Hamden Library:

Sept. 22, 2022

Natural phenomena like earthquakes are oftentimes deemed as disasters. But scientists utilize these occurrences to advance our understanding of Earth’s interior. While planets do not have bones, their internal structures are as complicated as the human body. Like the body, planets suffer fractures as well. So how does one learn if the planet is suffering a major break? Scientists have developed a way to perform a diagnostic X-ray. Learn more about these X-ray generators large enough to diagnosis a planet at a free virtual lecture via Zoom titled "How to 'X-ray' a Planet," Monday, October 3, 2022, 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm. The presenter Yantao Luo is a PhD candidate in the Department of Earth & Planetary Sciences at Yale University. He studies the Earth’s structure, going deep beneath the surface by analyzing recorded signals of earthquakes.
