Hamden’s Mentone Joins Staff Of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference

The Hamden High School graduate, and longtime college sports information director, recently took a new position in college athletics.

HAMDEN, CT — Hamden’s Mark Mentone has been named the Director of Communications and Internal Operations for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, CACC Commissioner Dan Mara recently announced.

Mentone comes to the CACC after two years as the communications specialist for Waterbury Public Schools.

The CACC is a 12-member NCAA Division II athletics conference. It offers championship opportunities in 18 sports.

Prior to working for Waterbury Public Schools, Mentone had spent 26 years as an athletics communications professional, including a combined 21 as the sports information director of a pair of CACC member institutions. He was the SID at New Jersey Institute of Technology from 2000 to 2005, prior to NJIT’s reclassification to NCAA Division I, and held the same position at Felician University from 2006 to 2022.

While employed by NJIT, Mentone spent four years as the CACC’s part-time information director. He assisted in the publicity aspects of the conference’s transition from the NAIA to NCAA Division II.

“Mark will be a great addition to the conference office,” Mara said. “His previous experience at two CACC institutions and as the conference information officer make him a perfect fit. The member institutions and the student-athletes will benefit from Mark’s expertise.”

In February 2021, Mentone was presented with a 25-Year Award by the College Sports Information Directors of America. He joins the CACC leadership team of Mara, Associate Commissioner Doug DeBiase, and Assistant Commissioner Kelsey Lengyel-Jacovich.

Mentone is a 1996 graduate of Trinity (Conn.) College, earning a B.S. degree in mathematics. He possesses an M.S. degree in journalism from Quinnipiac University. Before being hired by NJIT, he was an assistant sports information director at Hartwick College and Southern Connecticut State University.
