"It hits very close to home and I'm devastated for everyone involved," she said."It's a horrific tragedy and it's difficult to understand how anything like this could happen to anyone in our schools."
Like in Newtown, Hamden schools have security measures in place, including all doors locked at all times.
"It would be very hard for someone to get in -- people would have to be buzzed in at all of our schools," she said. "We also have safety plans in place for all of our schools."
Investigators haven't said how suspected shooter Adam Lanza got into Sandy Hook Elementary School but suspect he forced his way in the building, possibly breaking a window to get in. It's not thought he was buzzed in a door.
