Hike Planned at Olin's Powder Farm

Historic site used for World War II munitions testing will be opened for one day to the public.

The Hamden Land Conservation Trust will host a guided Nature Walk on Sunday, May 5 at 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. at Olin's Powder Farm in Hamden.

This is a leisurely walk through 102 acres of forest, lakes and trails abutting the Farmington Canal Greenway, led by Hamden Land Conservation Trust members.

The property was used during World War II for munitions testing. Bunkers used for storage of gun powder can still be seen along the trails.

Sponsored by the Hamden Land Conservation Trust and the Olin Corporation, this hidden gem is usually closed to the public. The property is located on Putnam Avenue, a quarter mile east of Dixwell Avenue.

Park in the Stop and Shop lot at the corner of Dixwell Avenue and Putnam Avenue.  Walk a short distance down  Putnam Avenue where you will be greeted at the entry gate.

Admission is free and open to all. Rain will cancel the event. For more information,  visit www.hlct.org.
