HAMDEN, CT — An incarcerated 18-year-old Hamden man is accused of trying to put a “hit” on a witness in connection with his current case, according to Connecticut State Police.

Claymont Arrington was arrested on a warrant Saturday at the Manson Youth Institution in Cheshire, according to police.

Police said the warrant stemmed from an investigation that began on May 20 after Department of Correction personnel in New Haven found Arrington trying to arrange a “hit” on a person in connection with his current incarceration.

Department of Correction personnel reported the threat was made over a recorded phone line, and police said Arrington was identified as the suspect based upon the use of his unique personal identification number (PIN) issued to him for making phone calls from the prison.

Arrington was charged with tampering with a witness, second-degree breach of peace, and second-degree threatening – physical threat. He was issued a $500,000 court-set bond for the arrest and was returned to DOC custody post-processing, according to police. He was scheduled to appear in New Haven Superior Court on Tuesday morning.
