"Our current senator has failed to deliver accountability or solutions to the myriad of issues our community faces, and Derby Republicans feel strongly that Hoyt will tackle these issues head on as our next senator," the group's statement reads.

In 2020, Hoyt ran to represent Hamden in the Connecticut House of Representatives, though she was defeated by Rep. Joshua Elliott. Hoyt received 30.7 percent of the vote, while Elliott received 69.3 percent, according to Ballotpedia.

If elected, Hoyt would represent Ansonia, Beacon Falls, Bethany, Derby, and parts of Hamden, Naugatuck and Woodbridge.
