Don Camerato has been a major force in the Hamden business community since he started, in men’s clothing, at age 19. Hamden Center, the office and retail buildings at the corner of Dixwell and Whitney Avenues, was Don’s vision.
Don's own store, D'Camm, started in the castle-styled building on Whitney Avenue, and was a fixture for decades in a few different buildings on the site. Don will explore the early efforts and vision that transformed that corner from a quiet suburban area into a thriving economic and social hub. The establishment of Hamden Center was a direct result of his efforts.

Local leaders, backed by the Chamber, worked to attract new businesses, improve roads and public spaces, and create a vibrant commercial district. The result was a bustling center that became the heartbeat of Hamden, fostering business growth and community engagement.
Join us and hear a captivating story that can only be told by Don.
The Hamden Chamber of Commerce continues this legacy today by supporting local businesses, advocating for economic development, and preserving the town’s rich history. As we reflect on Hamden’s transformation, we invite the community to join us in celebrating these milestones and sharing their own memories.
