Obituary: Allen R. Rose, 80, of Hamden

HAMDEN, CT - (From Sisk Brothers Funeral Home) Allen R. Rose passed peacefully in his home in Hamden, CT on October 28, 2021. Al was born on July 18, 1941 in New Haven CT to the late George and Helen Lynch Rose.

He grew up in East Haven, CT graduating from East Haven High School and proudly served in the United States Air Force and earned his degree from New Haven College.

He worked at UPJOHN/Dow Chemical in North Haven as a research scientist. Allen was active in the community serving as Past President and member of the Hamden Historical Society, most proudly guiding the development of the Hamden History Resource Room at Miller Memorial Library.

He was active in the PTO of his daughter’s schools and supported Hope Haven and many community food banks.

“Big Al” as he was known to generations of family, friends and neighbors especially enjoyed sharing the magic of Santa over many years.

Al was predeceased last year by his wife of 51 years, Nancy.

He is survived by his loving daughters Halley (Eric) Hebert of Hamden, CT and Patricia (Jeremy) Paugas of Beacon Falls, CT; his three grandchildren Nathaniel and Anglin Hebert and Grayson Paugas; his brother-in-law John (Rosemarie) Gibbons, nieces and a nephew.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Allen’s name to Fisher House and for you take some time to share a conversation with a loved one in his honor.

Graveside services are Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Whitneyville Cemetery.
