Obituary: Henry M. “Happy” Gilmore, 69, of Hamden

Henry, an avid car enthusiast, was a dedicated employee of the Town of Hamden Department of Public Works for many years.

HAMDEN, CT - (From Beecher & Bennett Funeral Home) Henry M. “Happy” Gilmore, 69, of Hamden, passed away at his home on May 4, 2022. Born in New Haven on April 29, 1953, he was the son of the late Henry F. & Barbara (Wehner) Gilmore.

Henry is survived by his wife Lizz (Ehly) Gilmore; his sister Patricia Burke Gilmore of No. Haven; and his nephew Gary Burke of Colorado.

Henry retired from the Town of Hamden Department of Public Works in 2017. He was a man that was always doing something.

For most of his life he resided in Hamden. He repaired, transported, bought and sold cars after his retirement.

He was also a member of the Conn. Classic Chevy Club and was an avid NASCAR fan. Happy could always be counted on to be Santa Claus in his Hamden community for many organizations during the holiday season.

Friends may visit with his family on Saturday, May 7th from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at Beecher & Bennett Funeral Home, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden. His Prayer Service will be held at 11:00 a.m.

Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
