Obituary: Henry Valalik, 94, formerly of Hamden
Henry, a proud U.S. Army WWII veteran, worked many as a machinist for High Standard Manufacturing and for Sikorsky Aircraft.
HAMDEN, CT - (From Wallingford Funeral Home) Henry Valalik, 94, of West Haven, husband of the late Elizabeth (Adante) Valalik, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at Regency House in Wallingford, with his loving daughter by his side.
Henry was born in Hamden, on February 12, 1927, the son of the late Ivan and Mary (Buchina) Valalik.
He attended State Street School and graduated from Hamden High School in 1944.
Henry served in the United States Army during World War II.
In 1947 he married the love of his life. Together they built their home, welcomed their daughter, and spent 58 wonderful years, always doing everything together.
They especially loved to travel to National Parks, attend country music performances, and go to country fairs. They always enjoyed attending their grandsons' soccer and football games.
Henry spent countless hours building rock walls, planting flowers, trees and bushes, and maintaining a yearly vegetable garden. He loved to work outside.
He was a machinist for High Standard Manufacturing for 27 years. He then worked at Sikorsky Aircraft as a machinist for 15 years before retiring in 1992.
He was an avid fan of the UCONN Women's Basketball team, and a lifelong fan of the Dodgers. He was very proud of the accomplishments of his 2 grandsons, and adored his 4 great-grandchildren.
Henry is survived by his daughter, Nancy Chapin and her husband, Cliff, of Wallingford; his brother, George Valalik of Wallingford; his grandchildren, Gregory Chapin and his wife, Jennifer, of Wallingford and Stephen Chapin and his wife, Yvonne, of Wellesley, MA; his great grandchildren, Josie and Wesley, of Wallingford and Theodore and Kyra of Wellesley; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Stephen, John, Joseph and Frederick Valalik.
Henry’s family will receive relatives and friends at The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext., Wallingford on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 from 9 am until 10:30 am.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Wednesday at Church of the Resurrection, 115 Pond Hill Road, Wallingford.
Interment with military honors will be in All Saints Cemetery in North Haven.
