Obituary: Nicholas DiGioia, 91, of Hamden
Nicholas worked nearly 50 years as a union carpenter and was instrumental in the construction of many local buildings.
HAMDEN, CT - (From Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home) Nicholas DiGioia, 91, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2022 at Connecticut Hospice after a brief illness.
He was born in Hamden to the late Michele and Anna Casiello DiGioia and lived his entire life in the house he was born in. He was a communicant at St. Ann’s Church until its closing and was a 1950 graduate of Hamden High School.
Throughout his nearly 50-year career, he worked as a union carpenter and was instrumental in the construction of many local buildings including Yale’s Ingalls Rink. \
He particularly enjoyed gardening, watching UCONN Women’s basketball, and was an avid NY Yankees fan.
Mr. DiGioia leaves a devoted wife of 61 years, Ruth Marenholz DiGioia and a sister, Celia Carboni. He also leaves many loving nieces and nephews.
Mr. DiGioia was predeceased by a brother, Dominick DiGioia and a sister, Marie Scalese.
Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial THURSDAY at 11 A.M. in Blessed Sacrament (CBOL) Church and may call Thursday morning from 8:30 - 10 :30 A.M. in the Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home, 1022 Dixwell Ave., Hamden.
Burial will follow in Beaverdale Memorial Park.
