Obituary: Richard Bruce Ferraro, 67, of Hamden

Richard, an avid outdoorsman, worked many years as a lead tool maker and fabrication coordinator for United Technologies Research Center.

HAMDEN, CT - (From Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home) It is with great sadness that the family of Richard Bruce Ferraro announce his sudden passing on July, 17th, 2021.

Born at home in New Haven, CT during a winter blizzard on Feb. 1, 1954, Richard grew up in Hamden, attended Hamden High School, and Southern CT State University where he received his bachelor’s degree in Microbiology.

He worked as a lead tool maker and fabrication coordinator for United Technologies Research Center, participating in the creation of innovative helicopter and jet engine part prototypes.

A highlight of his career was the invention and patent of an actuation system for a helicopter rotor blade at Sikorsky Aircraft Corp in 1999.

The latter half of his life he lived in the Berkshire Mountains and recently in Boynton Beach, Florida.

He loved nature, travel, hiking, fishing, art, photography, woodworking, and cooking.

He will be dearly missed & remembered by Bethany Ferraro (daughter), Ryan Ferraro (son), Elaine Ferraro (former wife), Mark & Patricia Ferraro (brother), Judy Ferraro (sister), Sean Pentland (nephew), Gemma Pentland (niece), Gaetano Delonge (nephew), Karen Curry (companion), André Nolibos (former son-in-law), as well as other family and friends.

Richard was predeceased by his parents, Salvatore & Caroline Ferraro.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service Saturday August 14th at 11 A.M. in the Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home, 1022 Dixwell Ave., Hamden.

Calling hours will be from 10-11 A.M. Saturday morning.
