Obituary: Rudolph “Shotz” Jan Charmatz, 67, of Hamden
Rudy, a staple in the community, loved attending NHRA drag races and was an avid Rock and Roll fan.

HAMDEN, CT - (From Hamden Memorial Funeral Home) Rudolph “Shotz” Jan Charmatz, age 67,and lived at Mt. Carmel Congregate Senior housing of Hamden, entered into eternal rest on January 28, 2022, at YNHH.
He was born on March 16, 1954, in New Haven to Jan Charmatz and the late Helena (Hockeowa) McKiernan. Survived by Uncle John “Jack” McKiernan and family of West Haven, and a host of friends.
He was predeceased by his stepfather James McKiernan and a good friend Stu Tassmer.
A graduate of Hamden High School class of '72, Rudy Worked in manufacturing at Mite Corp. in Westville and H A Leeds in Hamden as well as several other small shops prior to retirement.
Shotz introduced himself to the crew on Pearl Avenue in 1967 which led to many cherished long-term friendships.
An avid Rock and Roll Fan, Rudy spent many nights as master of ceremonies covering his favorite local bands often starting the festivities with his patented "Bear Call".
As a faithful parishioner at Our Lady Mount Carmel Parish in Hamden, Rudy attended at services regularly.
Rudy also loved attending NHRA sanctioned drag races as pit crew for the Tassmer Racing Team and enjoyed ABC sanctioned bowling as a competitor then later a spectator cheering on his favorite teams.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 3, 2022 at Hamden Memorial Funeral Home, 1300 Dixwell Ave., from 9am-10:30am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Hamden, at 11 O’clock.
