One Charged in Hamden Home Invasion

A Hamden man is facing a litany of charges in connection with the June 26 home invasion at an Augur Street home.

Tywan Edwards, 28, of 38 Helen Street, Hamden, was charged with home invasion, conspiracy to commit home invasion, first-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit first-degree burglary, second-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit second-degree larceny, first-degree assault, conspiracy to commit first-degree assault, unlawful restraint and conspiracy to commit unlawful restraint. 

The charges stem from the June 26 incident where at about 11:30 p.m. police got a report of a home invasion, according to Hamden Police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith.

There they found the 38-year-old resident bleeding from the head, Smith said. Hamden Fire Rescue treated the victim, who was then was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Officers learned that four people wearing masks broke into the home through a first-floor window, Smith said, and held a 34-year-old woman captive, "duct-taping her mouth, hands and feet while pointing a gun at her head," Smith said.

About 20 minutes later, the male resident returned home, Smith said, and one of the suspects hit him in the head with a porcelain object before fleeing, taking with him electronic equipment.

At the time, police said that they believe the incident was not random but rather the male resident was targeted.

Detective Brian Stewart conducted "an extensive investigation," Smith said, which led to the application of an arrest warrant for Edwards. On Wednesday, Det. Raymond Quinn, who is assigned to the United States Marshal’s Service Connecticut Violent Fugitive Task Force, along with another Deputy Marshal, saw Edwards on Munson Street, where he was arrested.

Edwards was held in lieu of $200,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Aug. 7.
