Police: Woman Hits Boyfriend's Ex Head On and On Purpose

The Hamden woman allegedly struck the victim in a Dixwell Avenue parking lot and then fled with the bicycle stuck under the car, according to police.

A woman out for a bicycle ride Sunday morning had her serenity shattered when her ex-boyfriend's girlfriend struck her head-on with her car, according to police.

The 46-year-old woman was riding her bike at about 11:30 a.m. in the parking lot of 1245 Dixwell Ave. when Jacita Candelario, 24, of 164 North St., Hamden, allegedly hit her head-on with her car, according to Hamden Police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith.

"The victim and several witnesses advised police that Candelario struck the victim “head on”, while traveling at a high rate of speed," Smith said in a release Monday.

Hamden Fire Rescue treated the victim at the scene before she was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital with injuries to her neck, back and arm. Her injuries are not considered life-threatening, Smith said.

Candelario then took off, dragging the bicycle, which was stuck in the undercarriage of the car, Smith said. She was found moments later with a flat tire on Newhall Street, he said, and her boyfriend and her 6-year-old daughter were in the car with her.

Officer Jeremy Brewer conducted the investigation, which found that the victim is Candelario's boyfriend's ex, Smith said.

Candelario was charged with second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, second-degree criminal mischief and risk of injury to a minor. She was held in lieu of $5,000.00 bond and is due to appear in Meriden Superior Court on July 29.
