Popular Restaurant Reopening After Fire In Hamden

The restaurant was temporarily closed after a fire on Wednesday.

HAMDEN, CT — Café Amici is reopening for lunch hours on Thursday after temporarily closing due to a fire in the apartment above the restaurant on Wednesday.

The Italian restaurant, located at 1640 Whitney Avenue in Hamden, was closed for dinner hours on Wednesday after the fire.

WFSB 3 reported that crews responded to a fire on the deck of the apartment above Café Amici. The fire was limited to the deck and a small portion of the apartment’s exterior, according to WFSB.

In a post on Facebook, Café Amici said the restaurant was “completely undamaged” by the fire.

“As many of you may have heard there was a fire at 1640 Whitney Ave today,” the owners wrote in the post on Wednesday. “Our restaurant is perfectly fine and completely undamaged. The apartment upstairs is where the fire started and where it was contained. Thank you to the Hamden Fire and Police department for the swift response and help! Though we are cleared to open tonight we decided to take the night off to get everything back in order and we will be reopening for lunch at 11:30am tomorrow!”
