Public Hearing To Be Held On Hamden Mayor’s Proposed Budget

The hybrid public hearing will take place during a special Legislative Council meeting on Tuesday, April 1.

HAMDEN, CT — A hybrid public hearing on Mayor Lauren Garrett’s proposed budget for 2025-26 will take place on Tuesday, April 1.

The hearing will be held during the Legislative Council’s special meeting at 6 p.m. at Memorial Town Hall. The meeting will also be conducted virtually.

Garrett recently proposed a $313.65 million budget that carries a tax rate of 46.61 mills, which represents a 9-mill decrease over the previous year, according to the New Haven Register.

Despite the proposed tax rate cut, the Register reported that several residents said during Garrett’s budget presentation that it wasn’t lowered enough based on the increased home assessments in the recent revaluation.

A homeowner whose home increased by $100,000 in assessed value should expect to pay about $3,000 more in taxes under Garrett's proposed budget, according to the Register.
